From a paster's pen

Insulation is something each of us can take for granted, isn't it?

As the weather goes through its regular cycle of dropping temperatures, due to the onset of winter, we can offset the numbing effects of the cold in several ways.

As I sit in my office getting ready for some of my regular activities I start to get the shivers.

Because I'm not just sitting in the office for an extended time I don't get a heater out but rather I put on some extra things.

Two particular items that I use are a beanie and some mittens.

If I try and work without putting these items on, it can be a real lottery when I start to work at the computer keyboard.

But when I get properly insulated things start to get done in a very much more comfortable way.

Sin, not being the sort of person God wants us to be, also has its drawbacks.

The Bible speaks about the end result of sin in terms of eternal separation from God.

Being separated from God forever and ever is something to give me the shivers.

However, the Bible doesn't just leave us in the lurch without hope.

Through the Bible, God promises that whoever believes in God's insulation, Jesus, will not feel the long-term effect of sin.

The Apostle John writes a great promise in chapter 3, verse 17:

"For God did not send his son, Jesus, into the world to be its judge, but to be its saviour."

Taking on the name of Jesus is the only way we can be insulated from the effects of sin.

Have you put on your insulation?

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
