Garden to bring out the best

A new idea has sprung to life at the Aboriginal Evangelical Church in Moorhead Street.

A community garden was being dreamed up between community services, the Eden Garden Centre and Aboriginal elders with fruit trees, a passion fruit vine, water tank and more.

And the NAIDOC Week celebration last week was the perfect opportunity to announce the concept to the community.

"We thought it would be a great idea to get a community garden here," said Jill Archer of the Eden Garden Centre.

"We've been talking about growing food like fruit trees, a passionfruit vine and bits and pieces," she said.

Beryl Cruse has supported the idea as has her women's group, which meets regularly at the church.

Helping get the project "into" the ground were Eden Garden Centre's Suzette Campbell and Jill Archer, together with Liam O'Sullivan of Housing NSW Beryl Cruse who hold regular women's meetings at the church and Iona Marsh (Department of Community Services).

Housing NSW will sponsor the community to get plants from Eden Garden Centre.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
