The Eden Chamber of Commerce is to take a "do it yourself" approach to the appearance of Imlay Street, with members rolling their sleeves up for a major beautification project.
The chamber met on Monday, July 28 to discuss a re-sprucing of Eden's main street.
A motion was moved and carried to allocate funds to beautify the main street as part of the Development Control Plan number 40.
The project will involve working bees with chamber members providing the labour themselves.
The plan includes a general tidy-up of Eden's main street as well as painting of shop fronts in order to change the overall look.
The designs for the re-painting were created using computer graphics, and the chamber has an array of ideas for potential changes to shop fronts that will be inexpensive but improve the look of the main street.
A demolition order for the building that previously housed Images Hair Salon will be submitted to Bega Valley Shire Council in order to remove the surrounding fencing and rubbish from the street.
The planting of wisteria by BVSC and chamber may re-painting the Imlay Street pedestrian structures.
The chamber donated $500 to Daphne Lister and her team of gardeners for plants and materials to assist them in their work maintaining the roundabout gardens and those in the main street.
Also discussed was the ongoing Development Application for hire bikes to be provided at the Visitor Information Centre.
The meeting recommended the bikes be rust-proofed while awaiting application approval.
The chamber will also host the Sapphire Coast Tourism Board on Friday at 10am from the Great Southern Inn.
The board is an independent committee that maintains tourism on the South Coast and intends to familiarise itself with the Eden area.
