Eden's Ivan Slater (aged 17) is the 2007/2008 Sapphire Speedway Young Guns Champion and overall club champion for two consecutive years in a row.

Slater claimed the title, and the trophies, at the presentation held recently.

He won with 460 points for the season and the nearest competitor to him was Greg Bobbin with 417 points.

Bobbin came first in the Aussie sixes class and fellow Eden driver Troy smith claimed third place.

Andrew White of King Bros Smash Repairs came second overall in the Super Sedan class ahead of Charlie Vella who came third.

Vella was also named Club Person of the Year.

Next season will see Slater driving in the super sedan class sponsored by King Bros Smash repairs as well as competing in the Aussie sixes class in a Falcon owned by his father Ian.

Slater also hopes to secure a drive in the 2008 Southern Highlands rally to be run out of Eden in the first weekend in November.

His brother Kurt (14 years-of-age) will compete next season in the Junior Car Division.
