The South East Regional Academy of Sport (SERAS) held its sixth annual education day at the University of Canberra on Sunday, July 6.
Karen Clarke (Wyndham) was one of the academy's individual scholarship holders in the Country Energy Program chosen to participate in a learning environment.
Her nearest fellow scholar came form Batemans Bay.
This year there were 14 of 24 scholarship holders in attendance and three Rising Stars.
The athletes and their parents participated in a number of workshops.
Yvonne Earle from Service One Members Banking provided a new education component for the academy designed to assist athletes to manage their finances when they leave home to study, work or pursue their sporting dreams.
Sports psychologist Kristine Dun from the ACT Academy of Sport then provided the scholarship holders with an overview of techniques used by elite athletes to improve their performances.
The athletes also split into two groups with one group for media skills training with Cathy Reid and a core strength and flexibility session with SERAS strength and conditioning coach Dean Chiron.
Olympic gold medallist and program patron Suzy Balogh was on hand to talk to the athletes about her experiences reaching the highest level in the sport of shooting and some useful tips that the young scholarship holders will benefit from in the future.
