Girls do it tough

The South East Regional Academy of Sport (SERAS) division three and four netball teams were under strength and did it tough against Belconnen in round five of the ACT State League Netball competition on Sunday, July 6.

The SERAS Under 19s division three team played with the minimum of seven players and went down 31 to 19 in a very physical encounter against the undefeated Belconnen.

Eden Marine High School's Sam McManus (Merimbula) was strong in defence and won possession for her team on numerous occasions.

Jordan Bedingfield from Bombala contributed in defence and mid-court with Teneille England from Cooma playing her best game after missing the start of the season.

In the division four Under 17s match SERAS took the court with no substitutes but acquitted themselves well and fought hard for their 27 to 24 win.

Round five of the competition coincided with the NSW Under 15s State Age Championships and along with two other key players being injured the academy girls did well to get through this round.

Both SERAS teams should be back to full strength for the next round on Sunday, July 20 after the entire academy squad competes at the NIB Games in Maitland from July 16 to July 18.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
