Eden Killer Whales Ladies White
The Eden Killer Whales Ladies White soccer team continued their undefeated run with a gutsy three to nil win over Mallacoota, south of the border on Sunday to stretch their lead to five points clear at the top of the table.
Eden got off to a blistering start attacking the Mallacoota goal from the outset with strikers Danni Condon and Amber Seckold making penetrating runs up front with some quality service from the midfield of Cass Chatfield, Mel Mitchell, Marnie Switzer and Rae King.
On the five-minute mark it was right mid and speed demon Marnie Switzer who latched onto a rebounded shot and almost ripped the leather off the ball to take the one to nil advantage.
Play evened out a little for the remainder of the first half with Mallacoota making inroads into Eden's depleted back line however Kate Mitchell covered the odd ball that came her way in goals and Alyce Prior, Bhud Clark and Vanessa O'Keefe were outstanding in the backs scrambling well in defense.
With just a few minutes to go until half time Mel Mitchell sent a cracking drive into the woodwork and ever ready Condon was on the spot to take the lead to two to nil at half time.
Eden came out firing in the second half and were never trouble for the remainder of the match, much to the delight of stand in keepers Cass and Vanessa.
Despite creating numerous scoring opportunities it took a penalty late in the match against Mallacoota before Kate could seal the points with an impressive spot kick leaving the Blue's keeper without a hope.
The Hotel Australasia award could have gone to any of the Eden's back line however Alyce starred in the centre and was the coach’s pick.
Commitment on the field has been second to none this season however the girls will need to back this up at training over the coming weeks with some tough matches ahead including the replay of the 2007 grand final against the Bega Devils this Sunday.
With the Eden side very close to full strength for the first time this season and gun shot stopper Kamilla Grubesic still to come back from injury, it will be exciting to see just what the Eden girls are capable of in the remainder of the season.
Kick-off is 1.30am at Eden.
Eden Killer Whales Under 9s
On Sunday the team locked horns with one of the three Merimbula teams.
The team went into the game under maned and lead by captain for the day Ainsley Mann.
The line-up was: forwards Ainsley, Ebony Dykoff Darrington and Sam Williams.
In defense were Aiden Lambourn, Connor Cassie and Thomas Morrow with Kiara Banks in goals and Chelsea Stevenson the reserve for the day.
The team attacked from the start, and pressured the Merimbula defense without much luck.
In a quick break the Merimbula side scored a quick couple of goals but the running of Eden players was commendable.
At the half time break Eden was down by four goals.
With only one sub the changes in the second half were more frequent and some players experienced niggling injuries.
Merimbula side sensed this and peppered the Eden goals constantly.
At the end of the game the side were worn out and it showed on their faces, but they
never gave in and fought hard to the end.
Player of the match was Thomas Morrow and the Picture Show Man award went to Ebony Dykoff Darrington.
Eden Killer Whales Under 8s
The team travelled to Merimbula to play Merimbula Green on Sunday.
Both teams battled at the ball but before too long Merimbula scored the first goal.
Straight away Talia Westleigh ran in and scored her first of five goals.
Then Corey Hardy headed to the ball and scored his first of two goals.
Merimbula scored again and we went to half time two all.
After the break, Eden came out fighting, Corey quickly scored his second goal and Talia scored three more.
Bailey Tuan did a fantastic job in defence, rarely letting the ball slip past him.
Bailey was all over the field and before long he kicked a goal as well.
Merimbula kicked one more, but Hayden Crofton and Amy Hodson made them work hard for it.
Jack Newton, Olivia Blanch and Shai Bamford completed our defence and all players worked together as a well oiled unit to help Talia get her last goal for the day and to defeat Merimbula eight goals to three.
Well done to all players.
This week's awards go to Bailey Tuan, Talia Westleigh and Corey Hardy.
